Matthew 28:18-20 is a very familiar passage for all who want to be involved in God’s unchanging mission priority.
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The imperative verb in Jesus’ command is usually assumed to be ‘GO’, but the imperative is actually ‘MAKE DISCIPLES’. ‘Go’ is a supporting description—‘as you go through life, make disciples’. Joining God in his mission is a journey into a new way of living, integrating this missional, disciple-making priority into the ordinary rhythms of life. David Bryant describes integration this way, ‘Integration means I take this world vision and begin to work it into my day-to-day walk with Jesus Christ. So it becomes a very practical, personal dimension of everything I am and everything I do as a Christian.’
