Praying for Alberta

This week our guest contributor, Luchie Swinton, shares how we can join with the Alberta team as they serve across the province.

Shifting Focus and Adaptation in Simply Mobilizing Courses in Alberta by Luchie Swinton

There has been a shift in the types of Simply Mobilizing courses delivered in Alberta in the last few years, reflecting the shift in focus of the movement (SMI).  The predominance of courses for churches such as The Unfinished Story and the Unfinished Story for Youth, as well as Interface Seminar may demonstrate the growth of Missional Churches.

There has also been difficulty in raising sufficient local facilitating teams for Kairos courses, resulting in the use of the hybrid model of delivery which has been both effective and efficient in maximizing facilitator resources.

Prayer Points:

1. Fall gathering for Regional Coordination Team, PRAY:

  • That the schedule would work for the team members.
  • That the training will bring a renewed passion for the work of mobilization.
  • That the Holy Spirit would stir the hearts of those He has called and that He would bring younger believers into these strategic roles and convict them to commit to this call.

2. Missional churches – Brightview Community Church, Wetaskiwin; Evangelical Free Church, Lethbridge; Abundant Life Church, Calgary; Calvary Community Church, Edmonton, PRAY:

  • That the Holy Spirit would begin to engage their whole church in understanding their call to all be on mission with God.
  • That the church leaders would recognize their role in equipping their people to respond to their missional call.
  • For these churches to imbue the denominations they are part of with their passion to be missional churches, and they would be able to facilitate individuals to pursue their specific calling.
  • That Abundant Life Church leadership and members would hear from God and move hearts in unity to begin to pray for a specific community they are being sent to.

3. Pray that the Holy Spirit will begin to prepare facilitators and participants for courses being planned, bringing them excited to hear from God personally in their journey of being on mission with God and removing any obstacles to their full participation. PRAY FOR:

  • Fall online Kairos – led by Dan Ibsen
  • Kairos Intensive at Ambrose (May 2025)
  • TUS at Calvary Community Church, Edmonton
  • ETI and TUS at Abundant Life Church, Calgary
  • ETI at Brightview Community Church, Wetaskiwin

4. Baptist General Conference of Canada (BGCC), PRAY:

  • The doors would open for the pastors who have taken Interface Seminar to engage their pastors and leaders, and these pastors would have the courage to share their paradigms and vision for their churches.
  • There would be opportunities to engage the Filipino Pastors and Congregations of the BGCC in the interface Seminar, and the Holy Spirit would convict the pastors and leaders to take the radical steps needed to become missional churches.

5. Pray for the Course Manager:

  • That funding would be available to continue to make necessary improvements and changes

Praying Across Canada

During the summer, we are excited to have guest contributors from across the country share their hearts for their communities. We are so blessed to be able to join with them in strategic prayer as we see God move across Canada!

Join us in this work. Lend us a hand through prayer so that many will give thanks for the gift that comes to us when God answers the prayers of so many.

Praying for the Atlantic Provinces

I’m here today shamelessly enlisting you to pray for the Atlantic Provinces. Honestly, if you’re looking for a place to find solitude, rest, community, and to connect with God in nature, just come to Atlantic Canada. This isn’t a tourism ad, though it’s hard to speak about my home region without sounding like one. It is just that beautiful – rugged, remote, picturesque, quirky, fun, and cozy. Everything that you’ve heard about the natural and cultural beauty here is true. So come here to stay, play, and pray, but also pray for us.
